When I was at school, I was known as ‘Willa’.
Snoz Mantell, the French master, introduced the idea of masculine and feminine in French by pointing to me and saying “For example, Rawlinson here would be feminine.” The whole class erupted and Tony Pinner, bless his cotton socks, shouted out “Willamena!”, which became shortened to ‘Willa’. I didn’t mind the nickname but I dropped it when I went to college because I got fed up explaining it to people.
But Roger Waters still calls me by that name (and so does everyone who knows me through him).
I’m listed as ‘Willa Rawlinson’ in the credits of Roger Waters: The Wall but The Hit is by ‘Andrew Rawlinson’.
So there you have it.
